April 30, 1978 Mazda RX7 was first introduced, a serial sports car with a rotary engine which became a legend (sold in Japan under the name Savanna). The power of the 1.3-liter engine was 130 hp. The sports two-door coupe with a mid-engine layout and rear-wheel drive accelerated to 100 km/h in 9.2 seconds and maximum speed was 190 km/h. At the same time, gasoline consumption was quite moderate — 8 liters on the highway, and 12.4 liters in the city. The gearbox was either manual with four gears or automatic with three gears. Mazda RX7 quite successfully participated in various races and rallies in Europe and the USA. There were four generations of RX7 and the car was in production until 2002. In total, a little more than 800,000 copies were produced.
