June 24, 1910, exactly 110 years ago, the automobile company A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili; English: Lombardia Automobile Joint Stock Company) was officially registered. In 1915 it was bought by Nikola Romeo, adding his name to the title of the firm. It was he who made the brand famous, focusing on the production of racing and expensive sports cars. Between 1950 and 1988, Alfa Romeo cars performed in all racing classes, including Formula-1. At the same time, the company while developing the ideology of a “family car conquering the highway” also produced road models. Having survived a series of financial troubles and a change of several owners, Alfa Romeo eventually became the property of FIAT, which managed to maintain a brand that was dear to every Italian.
