We often see retro-cars sold at auctions for tens, hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions of dollars and some of them fall into the garages of world celebrities. And in today’s issue of «Legend Alive», we would like to tell you about the cars owned by people who have conquered the world.
The winner of the Oscar in the nomination «Best original song» («Shallow» from «A Star Is Born» — editor’s note) Lady Gaga, who received a driver’s license four years ago (before that, the singer drove a car under student rights), owns a fleet of cars, including two retro-cars — 1969 Chevrolet Elcamino Super Sport and 1965 Lincoln Continental. The world famous actors are not far behind the music industry and Kendall. The silver medalist of Le Mans 2015 in the LM GTE Am class, known for his role as Derek Shepherd in «Grey’s Anatomy» Patrick Dempsey owns a classic Porsche, a Jaguar and a Mercedes. «Indiana Jones» Harrison Ford had to fight for his beloved 1966 Austin-Healey 300 in a divorce from his second wife, screenwriter Melissa Matheson. Given that according to some reports, the actor also has a De Havilland of the 1920s and Jaguar XK 140 of 1955, Ford can be safely called a fan of classic cars. A British actor, who became famous thanks to the comic role of Mr. Bean, Rowan Atkinson, does not lag behind the Hollywood star. The emeralds of his garage are a Jaguar MK7, a Lancia Theme 8.32 Series 1, one of the heroes of the retro-rally «Mille Miglia» — a 1939 BMW 328 and, of course, the star of the British automobile industry — Aston Martin Vintage.
And now we will surprise you a little. Try to guess what retro-car The Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger owns? Chevrolet, Ford, maybe Cadillac? No, the former governor of California preferred a very unusual car — Excalibur. The car, stylized as Mercedes SSK of 1920-1930s, produced by David and William Stevens, is equipped with a 7.5 liter engine and 215 hp under the hood. Amazing, isn’t it?
The next question. What do you think George Clooney and Johnny Depp have in common, in addition to a successful career and dizzying fees? The correct answer: love for the 1957 Chevrolet Corvette. Before we talk about one of the main fans of classic cars among celebrities, we want to pay attention to the garage of a person who knows what it means to drive a car at the speed of a civilian airliner landing. The 2016 Formula 1 World Champion Nico Rosberg owns two Mercedes cars: a 280 SL and a 300 SL, also known as the “Gull Wing”.
And now, as we have promised, it will be about a man whose collection has grown to such an extent that part of it has been transferred to the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris. One of the richest people in the USA and the world, designer Ralph Lauren, owns, according to some reports, around 60 cars.
For us, as an edition covering the details of the “most beautiful road race in the world”, it was nice to see the 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 Mille Miglia in his collection. But still, its «pearls» can rightfully be called the 1938 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe and 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK «Count Trossi». The history of these cars could be the basis for the script for the next Hollywood film. Bugatti has released just three of these cars, two of which have survived to this day. And Mercedes exists in a single copy. The car was created according to the sketches of the famous racer and designer, Count Carlo Felice Trossi of the British workshop «Willy White». By the way, this amazing vehicle was the only creation in the history of the company.
