Soon coming onto roads: what to expect from January

January has just come into its own, and fans of retro cars have already prepared to meet the new season, which, we would hope, will become more complete. AutoClassicNews is taking a look at what had been planned for the first month of the new year.

On January 14, the participants of the «Wintermarathon» are expected in Madonna di Campiglio, one of the most picturesque areas of the Dolomites. In 2 days, the crews will complete 2 special stages, and will also compete for additional awards — Trofeo Centro Porsche Brescia and Trofeo Eberhard — in the runs along the famous track laid along the surface of a frozen lake. The results will be announced on January 16 at 15:30 local time.

The 30th anniversary Cavallino Classic will take place on the California coast in Palm Beach from January 21 to 23, combining both circuit racing and a concours of elegance. On the first day, the participants will make several laps in «closed mode», while on the second one the spectators will be able to observe it, albeit few in number, which, of course, is caused by safety measures against the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the world. The concours of elegance, which will be the highlight of the third day, will feature 100 Ferraris. But it was decided to postpone the previously planned display of 75 retro cars before the eyes of the judges, a Classic Sports Sunday and a charity dinner until spring.

On January 22, RM Sotheby’s will hold the first auction in the new year. For the time being, the organizers have decided to stay mostly online, but a limited number of buyers will be allowed into the bidding room, where the live broadcast will take place at that moment. It is reported that a total of about 80 vintage cars will be put up for auction, and the highest estimated value will be declared for a 1965 Aston Martin Short-Chassis Volante.

January 30 is start time for the legendary Rallye Monte-Carlo Historique, which will take place along the roads of the Principality of Monaco and neighboring France for the 24th time. Eligible are the crews onboard the cars that entered the classic edition of «Rally Monte-Carlo» from 1911 to 1983 inclusive. In total, the pilots will have as many as 15 special stages, and on the first day they will also have to cover more than 270 kilometers as part of the Prologue along the route from Monte-Carlo to Buis-les-Baronnies. The crews will finish in Port Hercule (Monaco), and the award ceremony will be held at the Salle des Etoilles in the Sports Club of Monte-Carlo.
