The last month of spring will delight fans of vintage cars with events for every taste: auctions, retro rallies or multi-day adventures behind the wheel of their favorite car and in the company of like-minded people. And we will try to tell you about the key events from the world of automotive classics
From May 1 to 6, on the Crimean peninsula, the Gorkyklassic will hold the sixth edition of regularity rally «Nakhimov». In a few days, the participants will have to cover the distance of about 1,030 km and go through a dozen of regularity control sections along the picturesque mountain and coastal roads of Crimea. The choice of the average speed on the taxiway (low or high) is up to a crew.
On May 2, the Automobile Club of Bologna will hold the fifth stage of the Italian Regularity Rally Championship. Cars manufactured before 1990 will start the race.
A few days after the event in Bolognia, on May 6–8, the first stage of the Italian Grand Events Series — the Coppa Milano – Sanremo will take place in the north of Italy. In addition to classic cars produced from 1906 to 1990, the organizers decided to allow modern supercars to start in order to attract a new audience. It should be noted that in addition to the struggle for a place on the podium, owners of vintage cars will be able to take part in a concours of elegance.
On May 16, Rally Club of Classic Cars will open the season by the Metropol Hotel. At noon, the participants of INGOSSTRAKH Exclusive Classic Day will go on a journey (70 km) across spring-time Moscow. After 3 hours, starting from 3 pm local, the participants will be coming back to the start point.
In May, RM Sotheby’s auction house will hold two auctions — Open Roads. May and Amelia Island. May 19-27, the organizers will hold an online auction, within which each of the bidders will be able to get acquainted with reports on the status of the lot of interest, photographs, and also request additional information. On May 22, as part of the elegance contest, Amelia Island RM Sotheby’s will host the second auction in May, which will feature cars from different price ranges.
The auction house Bonhams does not lag behind its colleagues. The company plans to hold three auctions in May — The Bond Street Sale, The Amelia Island Auction and Bonhams MPH May Auction. It is worth noting that the auction on Amelia Island by Bonhams will be held on May 20, two days before RM Sotheby’s auction.
May 22 can sincerely be called the day of auctions, since in addition to RM Sotheby’s and Bonhams,
the auctions will also be held by Silverstone Auctions. The auction will feature 37 lots, including a replica of a famous Ford GT40 #1075, which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans twice.
In the second half of May (20-23) Canossa Events invites retro-cars enthusiasts on an exciting three-day journey through the streets of Emilia-Romagna to Versilia. 650 km behind the wheel of your favorite car is the best leisure activity to celebrate the weakening of a number of restrictions in the country.
Hero Events opens the season in Bicester with an «A novice trial». On Friday and Saturday (May 21-22), the event participants will attend seminars and practical exercises on the roads of Bicester, on Sunday they will take part in a small drawing, where they will be able to demonstrate previously acquired skills in «combat» conditions.
On May 23, Moscow will host the first stage of the RAF Retro Rally Cup — Rally «On Seven Hills». Classic cars manufactured more than 30 years ago are allowed to start, if there is a certificate of a car of a veteran FIVA, a Technical passport of a classic motor vehicle RAF or on the basis of registration documents for the car and passing an external inspection by a technical controller / expert of the CCC (Classic Cars Club) at the competition or by prior request.
Let us remind you that this year the stages are divided into three groups («A», «B» and «C»), in each of which three events are planned. The group «A» is made up with the rally «On Seven Hills», «Moscow-Murom» and «Stolitsa» («Capital»). In group «B» the following competitions will be held: «Petersburg», «Ural Cup», «Zhiguli». Rally «Autostrada — Tula» (11.06., Tula), «Kaluga (21(28).08., Kaluga) and «Smolensk» (11.09., Smolensk) formed Group C.
Pskov (31.07) and Rostov-on-Don (02.10) will accept the candidate stages this year.
From May 22 to May 29, the Rally Maya will be held for the seventh time in Mexico. The organizers offer to go on an exciting eight-day journey across the country of contrasts behind the wheel of your favorite retro car.
At the end of May (28–29) on the territory of the Republic of San Marino, the sixth stage of the Italian Championship will take place — San Marino Revival. Participants will compete for victory against the backdrop of ancient landmarks dating back to the 11th century!
