Three-time and reigning Mille Miglia winner Andrea Vesco with Andrea Vesco and Fabio Salvinelli in a 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport lead the first day. Despite the rather large margin, Vesco cautiously commented on the results of the first day:
«The first leg went very well, the variable weather helped, while today with a completely sunny day the cars will suffer a little. Last year we were on the podium, we have great expectations even if there are many opponents who contend for this title. But we are ready to have our say.»
Crew No. 4 Roberto Miatti and David Borchia behind O.M. is in second place, 302 points behind. 665 SMM Superba 2000 (1926 issue). Rounding out the top three are Andrea Luigi Belometti and Gianluca Bergomi on the 1929 Lancia Lambda Spider Casaro.
The 2019 winner, Giovanni Boceri and Daniele Bonetti, ranked fourth at the end of the first day.
The two-time winner Silvia Marini and Lucia Filipelli in a Bugatti T40 (1929) leads the women’s crew classification. «The car has not given us any problem; the weather yesterday was nice but today we expect the sun to beat down. It’s a race where the female presence is small, but the atmosphere is exciting and everyone helps each other out»
Andrea Guerini, two-time Mille Miglia winner, comments on the results of the first day: «The situation at the end of the first day speaks for itself. I would bet on Vesco, he is the best in the business and he has a reliable car. Until Tonconogy/Ruffini start, Vesco and Moceri will fight for the victory.
I don’t see pilots who can intervene in the fight between them. It should be borne in mind that this race is unique in its kind. Many crews take part in various races throughout the year, but the Mille Miglia is different. Passing the test plus concentration and most importantly calmness, despite nothing, and the main thing, of course, is not to give up in any situation»
