«Classic Marathon» is gaining momentum

Less than two days after the start of the «Classic Marathon», several crews faced a number of technical problems at once. Richard Legget/Julian Green (Alfa Romeo Alfetta) and Marc Kingsley-Curry /Rob Simmonds (Alfa Romeo 1750 GT Veloce) had to refuse to participate in the day tests in order to have time to repair their Italian beauties.

In the middle of the day, the luck turned away from the crew No. 2 Bill Cleyndert and Leigh Powley. Repair of the cylinder head gasket (the cylinder head) threw the crew to the 27th position out of 29 possible ones following the results of the second day of the competition. “I’m gutted” said Leigh, “It was just starting to get really good”.

If we ignore the technical problems, then the second day will be remembered by the participants with numerous mountain passes and four zones of regularity, which constantly tested them for strength. In particular, the bundle of the third and fourth zones of regularity. The length of the final zone of regularity of the second day corresponded to the number of speed limit changes that the participants encountered on the route. To say that it is difficult is not to say anything, but this is the beauty of a retro rally, you always have to be on your guard.

Best of all, this lesson was learned on the second day by Marcus Anderson and Matthew Lymm Rose. After the defeat in the first half of the day, the crew No. 26 gathered and was able not only to compensate for the gap between Mark and Sue Godfrey, but also increased their advantage to 18 seconds!

Of course, intermediate leadership does not guarantee anything, but the fact remains. Anderson/Rose are the main contenders for the victory this year.
