Amedee Gordini was born

On June 23, 1899, Amedee Gordini was born, a famous designer of automobile engines who earned the nickname «The Wizard». He was born in Italy and at the age of 11 he orphaned. Amedee earned his living in a car repair shop. At the age of 14 he began working at Isotta-Fraschini under the leadership of Alfieri Maserati himself. Growing up, Gordini opened his own company for fine-tuning automobile engines and was quite successful in that business. But once he decided to spend his vacation in Paris, and, apparently, rested in a big way, since he was left completely without money. So, Gordini stayed in France for good. Initially, he collaborated with SIMCA, bringing its racing cars to mind and participating in races personally, and then he created cars of his own design. After World War II, Gordini began working on Formula 1 cars. The first world champion Juan Fangio began his career in the SIMCA-Gordini team. For his achievements in motorsport in 1953 Amedee Gordini was awarded an Order of the Legion of Honor. After SIMCA ceased to exist, Gordini moved to Renault, switching from F1 to Le Mans cars and fine-tuning rally cars. In the 1960s Renault-Gordini cars dominated rally circuits. Renault Dauphine, Renault 5, Renault 8 and Renault 12, to which the wizard Gordini had his hand, remained in the history of rally forever.
