On June 28, 1926 it was the final stage of the consolidation of the two most famous German automobile companies — Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz und Cie. Two years earlier, their association was called the “community of interests”. The newly formed company became known as Daimler-Benz AG, and its cars got the name Mercedes-Benz. The joining of these oldest German companies was prompted by the economic crisis. Ferdinand Porsche headed the joint design bureau. Approaching the matter creatively, he completely revised the production program, combining the best Daimler models with the achievements of the Benz design school. An interesting fact: personally, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz never met.
