On June 27, 1909 Daimler introduced the three-beam star as the emblem of his cars. There are two main versions regarding its appearance. According to one of them, three beams symbolize the areas of activity of the company Daimler Motoren Gessellschaft, which produced, in addition to cars, also aircraft and marine engines. Thus, the three rays are earth, air and water.

The second version assumes that the three beams are three people who have played an outstanding role in the history of the company. The first is a brilliant designer Wilhelm Maybach who worked with Daimler from his youthful years until his death. The second is Emil Jellinek, in modern terms, the first dealer of the company. In addition, the recommendations of Jellinek greatly helped to improve the design of Daimler’s cars. And the third beam is the daughter of Ellinek — Mercedes after whom the cars were named.
