Defending «Wintermarathon» champion shares his preparation strategy

Andrea Belometti and Massimo Bettinsoli are about to defend their title in Madonna di Campiglio achieved last year. The pilot gave a few comments to AutoClassicNews on how they get ready for the rally.

«The preparation for the Wintermarathon is different from all other races. First of all because it will be 80% at night where observing the special stages with a photocell is more difficult and therefore we have to do the tests even at night. Then the car must have a good engine because the race is all about 1500 meters above the sea and the engines of retro-automobiles struggle more due to the more difficult carburetion.

Plus, there is the surprise of the ice and snow that we will have to overcome with studded tires. However, we are preparing well and obviously we hope to repeat last year’s excellent performance».

The upcoming edition of the Wintermarathon will become the 8th for Andrea Belometti. Previously he came fifth in 2018 (with Doriano Vavvasori) and was the runner-up in 2017 (with Emanuelle Peli) — both times onboard his 1937 Fiat 508 C.
