In hope for greater activity throughout the season: still to come in April

The retro-season is gradually gaining momentum, although some of the events previously planned for April have been postponed, while others have been shifted to the next season. But we do not lose hope and continue the tradition announcing the upcoming events.

After the Techno-Classica Essen has been postponed to the next year, April will start with the second stage of the FIA ??Trophy — Coppa dei Fiori, which will become the 35th anniversary edition.

April 10, the organizers of the «Wintermarathon», VECARS, invites all fans of classic cars to Corte Franca, where the 14th edition of Franciacorta Historic will take place. So far, forecasts are quite optimistic and registration is still open. So we only have to believe that there will not be repetition of last year’s story, when the spring event ended up being held in the fall to the accompaniment of rain.

On April 16-17, the fourth stage of the Italian Regularity Rally Championship — Trofeo Valli Biellesi — will take place. This time, the participants will travel to the northwest of the country, to the Piedmont region famous for its vineyards and white truffles — more specifically, to the Oasi Zegna National Park, created by Ermenegildo Zegna. Clean air, magnificent nature and a favorite car — what could be better in these difficult times?

In April, we will be following RM Sotheby’s and Bonhams auctions again. On April 21-29, RM Sotheby’s will be holding Open Roads April, which will feature 36 lots, including one of the thirteen Porsche 919 show cars created in 2014 for promotional activities. The starting price of the prototype is 80,000-120,000 euros. Is that too much for a full-scale model of the 2015 Le Mans winner? – We’ll see by the end of the bids. Unlike RM Sotheby’s, Bonhams relies on a glorious past and a 1936 Delahaye 135S. In the 30s of the last century, the car took part in endurance races, including the famous 24-hour marathon in France in 1939. It will be possible to buy an amazing car online on April 23, the starting price is 800,000-1,100,000 euros.

In addition, a charity auction from RM Sotheby’s will take place from 6 to 13 April, featuring just one lot: the 2020 Porsche Taycan 4S. This «German» owes its unique colorful livery to an artist Richard Phillips, who works in the style of hyperrealism. The body of the Porsche features flowers, and the idea itself is inspired by the works of a Swiss painter Adolf Dietrich, which Phillips came across about 20 years ago after visiting the Kronenhalle restaurant in Zurich. The car is also located in Switzerland, but the auction will be held online. The starting price of the lot has not yet been announced.

In addition to rallies and auctions, fans of classic cars will enjoy the anniversary concours of elegance, Cavallino Classic, which is scheduled for April 22-25 this year. At the event celebrating the beauty, speed and history of Ferrari from the moment of its foundation to the present day, one can see the rarest examples of the Italian brand, many of which take part not only in various exhibitions, but also in races.

On the last day of April, Peter Auto kicks off the 2021 season at the Paul Ricard circuit with the Dix Mille Tours du Castellet. Due to the cancellation of the Spa-Classic in May, the organizers decided to hold night races as part of the event, thereby allowing participants to enjoy driving in an unfamiliar environment.
