Ferruccio Lamborghini’s birthday

Ferruccio Lamborghini was born on April 28, 1916 in the small Italian village of Renazzo. He early awakened interest in cars and racing. Ferruccio participated in races on his Fiat Topolino with a high-power engine. However, rider’s career ended after the 1948 «Mille Miglia» which for Lamborghini, as he later wrote in his memoirs about the race, “ended in a bar where [he] entered through the wall with his car.”

After World War II Ferruccio took up the production of tractors and air conditioners and achieved great success in this business. But racing remained his passion and collecting racing cars became his hobby. In his collection were Ferraris. Once Ferruccio decided to turn to Enzo Ferrari himself with advice on improving the clutch on his cars. Enzo arrogantly replied that he did not need any advice from a tractor manufacturer. Outraged, Lamborghini decided to create his own company for the production of sports cars. He hired former Ferrari engineers Gianpaolo Dallara and Bob Wallace. The result was a mid-engined Lamborghini 350GT and Lamborghini Muira of outstanding beauty. Both cars were a resounding success. Lamborghini was satisfied, and Ferrari received a worthy lesson.

The origin of the Lamborghini emblem is also interesting — the Taurus symbolizes the birth date of the founder of the brand. All cars of the brand receive names associated with corrida, since Ferruccio was its big fan.
