July 10-12 The Poltu Quatu Classic Elegance Concours, organized by Auto Classic and Between Comunicazione in collaboration with the Grand Hotel Poltu Quatu and Bcool City Magazine, was held on the Costa Esmeralda for the fifth time. An authoritative jury of professionals with a capital letter in the world of retro cars, led by Paolo Tuminelli, selected the winners in six classes: Racing Legend, Mille Miglia Bond, Spirit of 1000 Miglia, The Dolce Vita On The Costa Smeralda, Wonderful Coupes, Forever Young, and the Best of Show winner of the evening.

The winner in the «Racing Legend» class was the car with a glorious history behind it — the Lancia Delta Martini Safari, presented to the competition by Edoardo Schon. In 1988 and 1989. The Safari rally car was driven by two-time World Rally Champion and European Champion Massimo «Miki» Biasion, later Lancia belonged to a Greek driver, and later became part of Giorgio Schon’s collection.

At the same time, with the postponement of Mille Miglia due to the COVID-19 pandemic to the second half of this year, the struggle for victory in two nominations, Mille Miglia Bond and Spirit of 1000 Miglia, was no less exciting than the rivalry for winning the most beautiful road race in the world. Mattia Colpani, who presented the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Cabriolet Pininfarina in the 1949 Mille Miglia, won the Mille Miglia Bond. The spirit of the Red Arrow was best embodied in the competition by the car that took part in the very first race of 1927 — the Lancia Lambda Casaro. The jury gave their votes to Enzo Moroni, who presented the 1954 Osca Mt4 Morelli in the competition.

The concours of elegance held in Italy could not do without the nomination, which is associated by millions of residents around the world with life in this bright and hospitable country. Best of all, «La Dolce Vita on the Costa Esmeralda», according to the jury, personified the Lancia Aurelia B52 Roadster Vignale this year. The award was presented to the winner in the nomination by a member of the jury — photographer, journalist and world ambassador of St. Moritz — Ted Gushue.

The Fiat Register Prize went this evening to a car that is associated with a leisurely holiday on the Mediterranean coast — a 1961 Fiat 600 Jolly Multipla with Ghia bodywork. In the «Wonderful Coupes» class, the victory went to the car assembled in the city that occupies a special place in the hearts of millions of people around the world — Maranello. The narrow squint of the Ferrari 365 BB Pininfarina won over the judges and we understand them. Another representative of the Italian car industry, Lancia Flaminia Sport Zagato driven by Mauro Milano, won the Asi Prize at the anniversary Poltu Quatu Classic. And in the «youth» class Forever Young, the victory by unanimous decision was won by the Carrera GT of Raul Marchisio.

Without a doubt, the victory in its class is a pleasure, but everyone who participates dreams of winning the Best of Show. This year, the star of the evening was the silver medalist of the «24 Hours of Le Mans» 1970 — Porsche 917 LH 1970. Gerard Larrousse and Willi Kauhsen could not win the legendary marathon, but after half a century Kauchsen was able to bring his car to the first step of the podium, even if and a competition of elegance.

One cannot but say a few words about the special prizes that were awarded to the main Italian vintage car fairs — Autoemotodepoca Padua, Automotoretr? Turin, Autoclassica Milan, Motor Gallery Modena, as well as the Fiat 500 automobile club, which was represented by the president of the delegation, Antonio Deiana.

Simone Bertolero announced, «We are already working on the 2021 edition with an ambitious project that will involve the entire Costa Smeralda on the American model of the Monterey Car Week. The Poltu Quatu Classic will become the final act of a series of events dedicated to motoring in the wonderful setting of the most glamorous part of Sardinia, as the Pebble Beach Concours is in America, and will take place in the first week of June after the Villa d’Este Concours d’Elegance.

Our classic week will be a pure concentration of beauty and we all believe that “beauty will save the world”.
