From 17 to 25 March, RM Sotheby’s auction house held another Open Roads auction. The bids were attended by 131 lots, 94 of which were cars representing 33 auto brands. Porsche had the widest representation — 21 lots. Approximately equal number of cars were presented by Italian brands — Ferrari (9) and Alfa Romeo (7).

40 lots out of 131 at the auction “Open Roads. March» appeared to be cars produced after 1991, the so-called «youngtimers» (cars produced less than 40 years ago, ed.). A 1998 Fiat Barchetta, equipped with 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, was sold for ?10,450. A Peugeot 106 GTI S16, released a year later, went under the hammer for ?4,180. The cars produced after 2000 were not inferior in price. The new owner paid ?7,150 for a 2005 Audi TT, and a 2017 Dodge Viper ACR in a magnificent forest green metallic went for 159,500 euros.

«Oldtimers» were no less in demand among buyers at the March auction. A 1960 Porsche 356 B 1600 Cabriolet by Reutter was sold for 132,000 US dollars. A Porsche 356 B 1600 Coupe by Reutter of the same model year went under the hammer for 82,500 euros. One of 1070 Dodge Challenger R / T Cabriolets from 1970 in Mad Plum color with white vinyl upholstery went to the new owner for $126,500.

At the same time, several representatives of autoclassics still remained unclaimed. This list includes a 1962 Porsche 356 B Carrera 2, a Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 Series III from Pininfarina, a 1964 Alfa Romeo Giulia SS and a 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Spider Veloce, also by Pininfarina. The cars, thus, came back to their previous owners.

Against the background of unclaimed stars, sales of cars requiring full restoration have shown steady growth. For a 1970 Aston Martin DB6 Vantage, they paid 214,500 while estimated cost was between $150,000-175,000. A 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429 went under the hammer for $181,500, which 2.4 times more than its average estimated cost.

At this point, the summing up of the results of the March RM Sotheby’s auction could have been completed, if not for one lot deserving special attention. A Plymouth Barracuda truck, complete with a 1965 Dodge C-500, was sold $ 44,000. Yes, you got everything right: for this amount the new owner received two in one — both a truck and a car for drag racing.
