Mario Passanante: «It is more difficult to win in the Italian Regularity Championship on retro cars»

The 2021 Italian Main Event season ended with a flawless victory for Mario Passanante/Dario Moretti. The duo won two of the four races of the championship: the Milan — Sanremo Cup (Coppa Milano Sanremo) and the Golden Cup of the Dolomites (Coppa d’oro delle Dolomiti). We couldn’t miss the opportunity to ask the newly crowned champion Mario Passanante about the past season.

Which would you say is the hardest race of the season out of the four?

Undoubtedly the Milan Sanremo Cup, because it is too fast on too bumpy roads, then the Nuvolari GP if only because it is very long (1100 km).

Comparing the 2016 victory at the Italian Regularity Rally Championship and the victory at the Italian Grand Events Championship, which was more desirable / more difficult to obtain?

In 2016 and 2018 I won the CIREAS and it is a championship with 12/14 races held throughout Italy and is more difficult also because there are usually many good drivers. The CIGE, instead, is a championship, at least this year with 4 races (in previous years with 3 races) so in theory it is simpler. It must be said that it is not for everyone because the costs for each race are high. Certainly as important, the CIGE gives more visibility.
